Biography
Coach Sarah Challenger began her Jiu-Jitsu journey because she wanted to learn how to defend herself.
What immediately stood out to her was how Jiu-Jitsu relies on leverage, positioning, and technique rather than brute strength or size. For Sarah, that meant learning how someone smaller could still control and submit a larger opponent through proper technique.
As she continued training, Jiu-Jitsu began to impact her in ways that went beyond self-defense.
It helped her build physical resilience, mental calm under pressure, and greater confidence. Off the mats, those same qualities have carried into everyday life through discipline, stress relief, and what Sarah describes as a quiet self-confidence.
One of the most important lessons Jiu-Jitsu has taught her is simple: don’t panic.
When caught in a difficult position, panic wastes energy and makes it harder to think clearly. Learning to stay calm, breathe, and look for a way out has become a lesson Sarah carries with her both on and off the mats.
Today, Sarah is also part of the RGA coaching staff. Knowing that she has a responsibility to give back and help develop the younger generation motivates her to continue training and improving herself.
For Sarah, being a coach and being a student go hand in hand. Continuing to learn allows her to lead by example and give more to the students she helps teach.
Looking ahead, one of her personal goals is to step outside her comfort zone and compete in her first Jiu-Jitsu competition.
Outside the academy, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach, cooking, and rock climbing with her husband.
Whether she is training, coaching, or continuing to challenge herself, Sarah values the confidence, discipline, and calm that Jiu-Jitsu has brought into her life.
